The Students

There is no prerequisite for taking the Intermediate School, the school is open to all Intermediate level riders. An intermediate level rider is someone who consistently rides in the intermediate group (also known as B group) and has a fair amount of track experience. Students will ride in the Intermediate / B group with other Intermediate level riders. NOTE: The Intermediate School is not for beginner level riders or riders who are just starting out in the Intermediate Group!

  • 8:30am - Rider's Meeting
  • 9:00am - Question / Answer
  • 9:20am - First Sighting Laps on your Motorcycle
  • 10am, 11am - 30 minute classroom sessions
  • 12pm - lunch break
  • 1pm, 2pm, & 3pm - 30 minute classroom sessions

The Intermediate Rider School starts at 8am, one hour before the first riders enter the race track. During that first hour you will meet your Instructors and ensure your bike and gear are prepared for the day. After introductions you will attend a mandatory riders meeting where we will spend some time going over track safety, flags, and giving you more information about what to expect during your day.

Your first session on the track, on your motorcycle, will be at 9:20am. The first lap is a sighting lap for every rider on the track. Riders are split into small groups and led around the track by instructors. The pace is slow and designed to help you become familiar with the track and also to look for some of the markers you learned about in the morning drive around the track. 30 minute classroom sessions will be held from 9:40am - 4:00pm, immediately following your time on track, there will be a break for lunch at 12 noon.

Classroom sessions will cover riding skills and techniques such as braking, entering and exiting a corner, an apex, and body position. Students will have time to ask questions and discuss real life scenarios. The classroom instruction will offer you the verbal information you need to progress as a rider. The track time will give you an opportunity to practice and put into play what you have learned in the classroom. By the end of the day you will be more comfortable on the race track and you will see improvements in both your riding abilities and confidence level.

Student Feedback

"What you are providing with the Intermediate School is probably on par with a lot of the 'boutique' rider schools that are popping up for $600-$1500 per day. I don't need some famous ex-magazine writer or racer to stroke my ego and tell me I'm great. Anybody who attends the Intermediate Rider School will be dollars ahead in their development." - Marc R.

"I participated in the "Intermediate Rider School" at Buttonwillow Raceway and wanted to let you know that I had a great experience. Dave and Brian delivered great riding and track insights (I took the class to get to know the track for the upcoming WERA race.) And for the cost the value was just incredible." -Anton G.
